The 1st half of the movie is very slow .I found it it's more enjoyable once the " ritual woman " showed up. I think the multiple scenes of the outhouse is unnecessary and nobody wants to see anyone using the restroom in any movie. There is one quick * scene at least what I caught and that was when mama's in the bathtub and you could see her breasts. Which is pretty mild for a horror movie. I didn't understand the ballet the ballet at the end of it. The ritual woman should have been closer to the beginning ,add some more scenes where she could see different entities... some of that was pretty lame as she was walking through the house. In my own opinion what would have made this a better movie is that everything that was going on ,the murders ,things moving about the house ,maybe make some things come up missing , and like where the stove was left on (it ends up being the girl was trying to kill her family by blowing the house up) and make lead it up to the end where when the girl goes outside into the yard the cops would pull up and arrest her then you find out that the entire time she's like schizophrenic or something and everything that was going on was actually her doing it......

I found The Funeral Home on Tubi and started watching it more out of curiosity. You can find the occasional gem as well as a lot of terrible movies. The Funeral Home is one of the better ones. It is well acted and the cinematography is excellent. So many films have terrible production values that can ruin a movie even if the acting and story is good. That is not the case here. The dialogue was a little uneven at times, but that could have been due to it being the English dubbed version. As horror movies go, this is one of the better ones..

The story wasn't very well thought out. For a dark comedy/horror, the characters were too somber and depressing. The comedy bits didn't shine through. The horror bits weren't scary. I did see that the makers of this film were partially inspired by the movie Heredity (2018) because they copied some of the special light effects and that was one of my personal favorite horror film. They also used some horror tropes from other good films too. The sound effects were pretty good too. But the screenplay was just dog s__t and a big disappointment. Character development was poor. We never understand why the home is in partial disarray and dirty. I didn't care for the multiple scenes of the females peeing. Like WTH? The ending made little sense and the girl seemed like she never taken a ballet course ever. Anyway, this film is a pass as far as I am concern.

The opening scene is a porta potty with a chicken wandering around. I gave it a 4 just for that alone. I laughed out loud!

This was very bad. I hung in there to see if anything of significance happened. Was not disappointed. The dance, lol. Sweet cheezits what was Guillermo del Toro thinking? Bad script, bad effects, bad everything.

The atmosphere is everything in La Funeraria (known as The Funeral Home or The Undertaker's Home in some countries). Right from the start, with the camera and score together tiptoeing around this dusty and cluttered building - part home, part mortuary - we are in no doubt this is one creepy locale. This is nothing like the Ibis and Jacquel Funeral Parlor from American Gods: unsophisticated and frankly miserable. The people who live there are kind of miserable too. First, we meet Estela (Celeste Gerez) and her teenage daughter Irina (Camila Vaccarini): Estela seems tired of life, and Irina simply doesn't want to join in; partly because she is grudgingly staying at The Funeral Home: she is still grieving her late father and has little respect for her stepfather Bernardo (Luis Machín), whose home and business this is. Bernardo too is finding life hard, particularly with respect to his marriage. It's no wonder there's such a sense of doom and gloom about this place: not only do they deal with death and grief on a daily basis, but some of the departed still move about the place too. Bernardo has been reassured by a wise woman he knows, Ramona (Susana Varela), that these "presences" are utterly harmless, and come with the territory, but first Irina and then Estela find them increasingly unsettling. La Funeraria was written and directed by Mauro Iván Ojeda, his first film, and I really admired the gradual escalation of the drama, both in terms of the domestic tension and the spooky goings-on. What at first seemed rather pedestrian, somewhat like the ghosts in Extra Ordinary (but without the laughs), became unsettling and then downright dangerous. Irina had every right to be scared - which no-one should feel in their own home - and Vaccarini's portrayal was impressive, especially as the least experienced of the cast. Irina was the one who didn't have to be there but was most affected by the place. Jeremías Smith's music, and indeed the sound in general, was very effective: plaintive, varied and somehow managed to convince me everything was damned scary, even when I hadn't quite seen it that way myself yet. The only snag was there was simply too much of the music, which meant I lost sight of my real feelings towards the film when it got to about halfway through, and it lost its strength in return. Despite that, there was a huge amount to admire in La Funeraria, especially in the last third or so, when Ramona started to understand what lay behind the "presences" in the house and her confrontation with them brought consequences. This was certainly a different kind of haunted house film, with beautifully lit memories coming to life and tragic possession scenes.

Living with the rest of his dysfunctional family, the undertaker of a small village finds their lives being invaded by the restless spirits of those he's trying to prepare for their eternal rest, but when he becomes aware of a series of hauntings around their house he tries to understand why to save his family. This was a solid if slightly flawed effort. This one gets a lot to like with the cold and chilling atmosphere present here that manages to feature some wholly creepy ideas throughout here. The slow introduction to the spirits in the house and what they're trying to do with the family is pretty well-handled, as they spend enough time comparing the stress of the situation to how they're trying to get by in life which is upended by the ghostly activity present there in the house. When they keep escalating through the various poltergeist antics throughout here, from the glimpses of them outside looking into the rooms or trying to break down doors to get at them, it's far more chilling knowing that these attacks are being built up to something impressive. This becomes far more enjoyable in the second half here where the supernatural attacks are far more chilling and impressive overall. As the attacks are given more credence with the attack on the mother within the bathroom which signals the start of the fun with the interactions involving the spirit medium trying to help them realize what's going on. These scenes pick up the action at a much steadier and more enjoyable pace involving the true reason for the hauntings and what the demons haunting them are really after leading to some pretty fun chases around the house leading to a lot to like. All of which feature plenty of strong make-up work in the ghosts and a few brutal kills, overall there's a lot to recommend. This one does have some issues. The main problem to be had here is the slow-burn atmosphere that makes the ghost action quite chilling as what happens during these scenes is so laid-back that it all feels quite tame. This one doesn't tend to differentiate between any of the various encounters or attacks and how they're living their lives in the house so nothing stands out beyond the suddenness of the ghost appearing and feeling out-of-place because of this development, resulting in scenes where it's obvious that there's not much happening due to the overall lack of action taking place with an obvious focus in the first half on the family drama living at the house. That brings about the second issue here where it's really difficult to get to care about anyone in the family or their issues which don't seem that interesting or original. Featuring an angsty teenage daughter who's still upset over the r\ecent loss of her dad and taking issue with the new living arrangement between everyone, a down-on-his-luck henpecked husband who seems more dedicated to work than anything and a quiet, introverted mother who doesn't speak up when she should, the family drama at the beginning of the film is a bit tough to get into with this dreary pacing to get going. Combined with a confusing ending that doesn't make much sense considering the action that's gone on before, these are what hold this one back. Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language, Violence and Brief Nudity.

Not the first time. Not the last. Shudder buffs-up a movie, that isn't even in English. It's usually, slow, lower budget than advertising, awkward, straining, and goes no where.
