Random Tropical Paradise

For Harry Fluder, life was working out exactly how he thought it was supposed to. He had a great job, loyal friends, and the perfect fiancee. However, finding one of his maybe not-so-loyal friends doing a "great job" with his perfect fiancee, was not part of the plan. After cancelling the wedding, Harry, in a drunken stupor, ponders how everything that was so right could have gone so wrong, meanwhile Bowie, Harry's best man, gets a flash of inspiration. Instead of also cancelling the amazing tropical honeymoon, why don't the two of them go instead, on an epic "homie-moon." What is supposed to be a refreshing weekend of rest and relaxation turns into an all-out bonkers adventure of epic proportions. Harry and Bowie will have the time of their lives, if they can just survive this Random Tropical Paradise.

Except for the drug lord, the characters in the movie are mostly genial, and in a weird way, even Joe Pantoliano comes across less menacing in his linen whites. The goons, funny as can be, follow orders with more brawn than brains. Drugs and orgies seem par for the course and the hallucination effects were wild! Composer Bryce Jacob's original rendition of "Best Man" is soulful and haunting. The easygoing story-line of Random Tropical Paradise romps through a fantasy escapade, enough to distract you from the real-world craziness.

Enjoyable from beginning to end. The superb writing kept me hooked and laughing throughout. Brooks Wheelan stood out with his excellent delivery though the rest of the cast performed remarkably as well. Would recommend this movie to any comedy lover who appreciates quick witty banter and well executed jokes spanning the depths of pop culture.

Comedy in film is difficult to do - the cadence of timing and delivery is magnified on the screen. A subtle alchemy needs to work between the actors to make the audience connect to the characters. In Random Tropical Paradise, best friends Harry Fluder (Bryan Greenberg) and Bowie Pemberton IV (Brooks Wheelan) pull off a believable "homie-moon" adventure with reckless abandon and hilarity. We go along for the ride, through some anticipated capers and some unexpected twists in the tale. Each cast member, no matter how minor or major their part, has played their role well. Funny script shot in a lovely location! Enjoyable!

This movie is exactly what it needs to be: what you expect from watching the trailer, but much more than the trailer. I think the low score is unfair. Although the film isn't perfect, no-one who sees the trailer and who watches movies should expect it to be - and if you have reasonable expectations then this movie is actually a cut above the rest. I would compare this movie favorably with classics such as A Weekend at Bernies and The Hangover, but it doesn't stoop to over-acting like The Hangover does. Instead the movie is filled with well-acted and funny conversations between the two main actors. The laughs weren't out lout for me, but they were very consistently amusing and entertaining. Brooks Wheelan's performance is outstanding in this movie, so much so that I would put him in the top 5 "lovable goofball friend" characters that I can remember. His portrayal is genuinely likable without being over-the-top or mean like recent "lovable goofball friend" characters we've seen lately (eg. Deadpool's buddy). Bryan Greenberg's portrayal is adequate. He plays the sympathetic everyman, and thus isn't supposed to be the wise-cracking party animal. The more important thing is that he has good chemistry with Wheelan and the conversations between the two are pleasing. I liked this movie and would recommend it!

I wasn't sure what to expect but I'm glad I pulled the trigger on this one. It's got a little bit of everything, fratty humor, pop-culture humor, absurdity, romance, drug trips, dildos, and even a little darkness amongst the sunny tropical vibes. This is the perfect choice when you want to relax and watch something where you don't need to think too hard. Just sit back, crack a couple cold brews and enjoy the ride!

Not bad at all. It's not going to go down as the greatest comedy of all time, that's a given, but this made me laugh and that's all that's important. It's a feel good movie with a weak plot that seems written by some Movie and TV geeks, but you know what? It gets the job done, and you know what? In the end that's all that matters getting the job done and they did it. I laughed and had a good time. Worth seeing, randomly. http://cinemagardens.com

I saw the cover, and it reminded me of Weekend at Bernie's so felt the need to see it. I had no idea I was going to enjoy this film so much. We've seen the plot before, we know where it is going, but it just feels different, it felt so more relaxed and unforced. The delivery of lines was second to none, I found the timing the one thing that kept me smiling from start to finish. I have not heard of either of the two main characters before, but I will be following them from now on. Especially Brooks Wheelan, I couldn't help but find everything he did, said or gestured, was hysterical. The story is like a bad episode of Magnum PI, but it is executed so well, we know what is going to happen within the first few minutes, and you expect a "Hangover" type movie, but it isn't. I don't know why it has such a low rating. This genre has its blockbusters, but this had a totally different feel. Totally unexpected favourite!

I don't why this gets such low ratings. The movie is fun, sexy (without going overboard), juvenile when needed, predictable (so it throws you off), and has good twists. I also has some great reminiscing sequences that most of us can relate with. The acting is really good, though not academy stuff...but carried well. In general, it's just what it intends to be. A fun, semi-wacky tropical vacation flick. 7 of 10
